A Biological approach to prayer
Greetings on behalf of the Board of Directors of Encounters Network. We are sure all of you know the critical nature of the health issues facing James Goll. This has been a long hard struggle but James is living in a place of Grace and Faith. There have been so many people/ministries lifting up James with fruit evident at many junctures. We believe that the Spirit has revealed a different strategy in praying for James. Many of you are aware that the Jewish new-year starts with the celebration of Rosh ha-Shanah. “L’shanah Tova,” happy New Year! We believe this new strategy will come alongside of prayer support already in place. We believe that we should target tissue groups within James body with pointed, specific prayer.
The Gamma Knife approach
Last year, while in prayer for James a word came forth in almost an involuntary way. This word was spoken out loud, “Gamma knife! Gamma knife! Gamma knife!” The first response to this word was to think this is a treatment regime that the James should consider. However, in researching the gamma knife procedure the Spirit began to suggest that this is a new way to pray for James.
“The gamma knife works by a process called stereotactic radiosurgery, which uses multiple beams of radiation converging in three dimensions to focus precisely on a small volume, such as a tumor, permitting intense doses of radiation to be delivered to that volume safely. Treatment that is fractionated over several days may be referred to as stereotactic radiotherapy as opposed to stereotactic radiosurgery\. At present this procedure can only be used on regions of the brain
Using three-dimensional coordinates determined in the planning process, a frame is then precisely attached to the gamma knife unit to guarantee that when the unit is activated, the target is placed exactly in the center of approximately 200 precision-aime, converging beams of (Cobalt-60 generated) gamma radiation. Treatment takes anywhere from several minutes to a few hours to complete depending on the shape of the target and the dose required. Patients do not feel the radiation. Following treatment the headframe is removed. Each target generally requires only one treatment session.”
Focus on the Brain
Research has shown that this procedure can only be used on the brain. Suggesting that one of the keys for the task force is to change our way of thinking about this illness. Our focus of prayer on the task force is not James brain but our brains. There can be a cancer of unbelief within each of us. Unbelief robs us of faith to believe beyond what we see in the natural world. Our prayers need to originate from our hearts and not our brains. We need to implement a realignment of our spirit, soul and body.
The medical research suggested that the gamma knife treatment is administered thru a three-dimensional framework attached to the skull. Within each of us is a small trinity. This framework consists of three elements. The three elements according to scripture are the spirit, soul and body. The spirit is of course our eternal spark imparted to us by God at the moment of conception. The soul is our thinking process, desires, appetites and other human attributes. Finally our bodies are our physical biological beings. James and Michal Ann have perfectly healthy spirits and souls. Their physical bodies have not yet caught up with their eternal nature. When we pray from the soulish realm we let our natural perception control our spirit. We want to cause proper alignment of our spirit, soul and body to be an effective instrument in this effort. How do we accomplish this task?
Laboring Prayer (Joining our labor with God’s)
There are many different kinds of prayer in the Bible. Our own informal survey identified some 24 different kinds of prayer. We want to focus on one of those types of prayer for a moment. Lets look at the book of Matthew for our text.
Matthew 17:14 And when they came to the multitude, a man came up to Him, falling on his knees before Him, and saying, Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is a lunatic, and is very ill; for he often falls into the fire, and often into the water. And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not cure him. And Jesus answered and said, "O unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me." And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured at once. Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, "Why could we not cast it out?" And He said to them, "Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain, `Move from here to there,' and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible to you\. "But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting."
We are not suggesting in any way that James illness is the result of being possessed or influenced by a demonic spirit of some sort. This cancer is not the result of some open door in their lives. Believe me, James has been down every avenue of possibility for a cause of this cancer. He is sick because the world is in a fallen state. We live in a place where bad things sometimes happen. However, we do not have to live our lives dominated by circumstances. We are seated at the right hand of the Father thru our relationship with Jesus our savior.
In the Matthew 17 encounter the disciples apparently prayed with authority they felt appropriate for this individual but did not see the desired result. The text suggested that for the disciples have been successful would have required them to enter the self-discipline of fasting. In effect they would have had to labor on a personal basis to have had effective ministry to this individual. May I suggest that fasting is not just a tool for deliverance ministry but also a tool for causing realignment of our spirit, soul and body? Some kinds of prayer are connected with the labor of personal discipline. This of course is not works theology, but rather an acknowledgment that faith is sometimes the result of having taken decisive action in how we live our lives.
Fasting as our tool of realignment
Fasting is not about increasing our spiritual prowess. Many of us may have fasted a number of ways a number of times. A food fast forces us to focus by directly doing the opposite our appetites are telling our minds we need. Within each of us there may be many appetites. Thru fasting we force our soulish realm and our physical body to come into alignment with the power of prayer anchored out of our spirit. We should be focused on the realignment process not the instrument of the fast. When our soulish realm and body are weaker there is less resistance to our communication to the Father thru our spirit. In other words, we pray cleaner. Clean prayer shifts events, causes release and in effect attracts the eyes of God to a particular issue. Being part of this task force will involve fasting at some level. We want you to ask God to show you the best way for you to cause your soulish realm and body to align with your spirit. This may be some sort of a food or drink fast. Fasting food and drink may be relatively easy to do for the well-disciplined individual. As a result some of you may want to fast TV. Some of you may fast spending money on something that often pulls at you. You may fast a particular issue for a season and then change to another kind of fast. One week you might fast deserts and the next you may fast soft drinks. Our focus is on fasting well beyond any 40-day paradigm. This fast is about change within each of us over the long haul until this cancer is gone.
Task Force teams
The gamma knife research suggested that radiation was powerful when focused from many sources on a single point. By joining the Health Task force you will be assigned to be part of one of two teams. Each team will have the assignment of focus on a particular tissue group. We are looking for 200 team members to focus specific prayer on a very specific tissue group within James body. Asking each team member to enter into the discipline of fasting on some level as God leads us for the purpose of realigning afresh our internal trinity.
